Preventing Acne Scarring: What You Should Know

Some people may be more prone to acne scarring than others. Some people may have scars just from getting a pimple, depending on the type of skin they have and any other skin conditions they may be suffering from. There are a number of things you may be able to do to help prevent this type of scarring and keep your skin clear and clean. If you have issues with your skin, going to the dermatologist is something you should do to get the clear skin you desire. Read on for helpful tips on how to prevent acne scarring.

Avoid Picking

Avoid picking at your acne pimples to prevent scars. Picking will give you an open sore and that open sore needs to heal. Healing is going to entail a scab, which you more than likely are going to try to pick at again and again, which will then result in a scar. Opening up your pimples may seem like a good idea, but you need to avoid picking at the pimples and avoid touching your face with dirty or oily hands. All you are doing is creating more of an issue for your skin, so don't pick. If you have whiteheads, you should place a warm washcloth on your pimple or your face to help alleviate any pain you may feel from the pimple and allow the pus to come out on its own rather than picking it.

Stay Out Of The Sun

Stay out of the sun to prevent the sun from darkening these pimpled areas of your face and causing darker marks on the skin. You should wear SPF when out in the sun and keep your face covered to prevent sunspots or darkening of the skin. Wear a hat or just keep out of the sun whenever possible. If you have to be in the sun, be sure you have an SPF facial moisturizer of at least 50 SPF to prevent sun damage.

Keep Your Skin Clear

Preventing acne in the first place is key to preventing acne scars. To prevent acne, you should wash your face with a gentle face wash in the morning and at night before bed to remove makeup or other dirt from the skin. Prevent your face from drying out by applying a facial moisturizer that doesn't clog the pores but will hydrate the skin and keep it moisturized. Be sure to eat a clean diet rich in vitamins and minerals and avoid greasy or oily foods.
