3 Tricks for Taking Care of Your Skin During the Winter

The winter time can be really harsh on your skin. If your struggle to take care of your skin in the winter time, here are a few tips that will make this winter a little smoother.

#1 Give Your Lips Some Extra Attention

One of the parts of the body that seems to suffer the most during the winter time are the lips. After you brush your teeth in the morning, run your toothbrush over your tips. This will help remove loose, dry skin from your lips and will help you avoid chapped lips.

Keep your lips moist by apply a thick ointment to your lips. A great ointment to use is Aquaphor or a similar type of petroleum jelly type-product. Its thick and great at locking in moisture and will not dry out your lips like many traditional chap sticks do.

#2 Turn Down The Heat In The Shower

It can be tempting when it is cold outside to turn up the heat in your shower. A hot shower can really warm you up. However, a long hot shower can also dry out your skin. You can protect your skin by either taking shorter showers if you like them hot, or using warm water for your shower. A little hot burst of water is okay, but a prolonged hot shower will just dry out your skin and your hair as well.

When you get out of the shower, instead of rubbing the towel on your body, dab away the water. This will help your skin retain important moisture.

#3 Stay On Top Of Moisturizing

It is really important to moisturize during the winter time. When you get out of the shower, stay in your bathroom and apply your body moisturizer. Don't open up your bathroom door.

Applying moisture when your bathroom is pull of steam and humidity will help more moisture stick to your skin. You can even apply moisturizer in the form of a spray-on spray before you get out of the shower to take advantage of the moist state of your skin; this is great for hard-to-reach places like your back.

Make sure that you apply moisturizer to your face, and be sure to use a face moisturizer that has SPF in it. You need to protect your skin against exposure from the sun throughout the year, not just in the summer.

Protect your skin by taking care of your lips, cooling down your showers and liberally using moisturizer. For more information, contact a business such as Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Specialists of Moreno Valley.
